Rechargeable Batteries

I bought into the ryobi 18v system because they share a battery type among so many tools. Sadly, one of the batteries died after a year of light use and they want a lot of money for replacements. I have a lot of friends who have bought the same sets and ended up with a dead battery after a year, so anecdotally it seems the quality isnt that good. I have dewalt tools and batteries that are still working, with reduced output, after 4-5 years. Ryobi P100 ONE+ 18V 1.5m-Ah NiCd Battery (130224028)

i also went to ryobi after my dewalt was stolen i found they work better then dewalt but yes the ni-cad batterys only last about a year or so so when my battery went i got li-ion battery drill and impact and 3 years later they still work like brand new. i found out later that the li-ion batterys work with all the other ryobis as well that was good because i have 2 drills, a sall-zall, and a little skill saw. i would go for the li-ion before i would buy anything else they hold a charge way longer, have more power, and after 3years i get 4 times as much use out of mine then my coworkers who use dewalt ni-cad and the best part buy the new tool you want and can use the batterys for all your old tools. must stay with the same voltage but get a tool you dont have not the same thing like i did. the 2 stars is for the ni-cad battery as for ryobi and the li-ion battery 5 stars all the way. i did not get my drills from amazon i just wanted to help. good luck!

I've had the 18v Ryobi stuff for 3 - 4 years. 3 batteries, flashlight, drill/driver, reciprocating saw and circle saw. Heavy use of the drill/driver, probably 15 pounds of deck screws (built 2 decks). The batteries have served well but now need replacement. The circle saw is the one exception; not a good application because the battery drain is too heavy except in very light wood. Note that the batteries should not be left in the charger indefinitely, take them out when the green light comes on or they will deteriorate.

I bought this to replace the battery of a Ryobi drill I bought over 6 years ago. The originals were completely dead and this replacement fit perfectly. I no longer use my drill on a daily basis and only bought this because I was too cheap to go for the new lithium ion batteries and this was the best price I found. While being top of the line 6 years ago they don't hold a charge very long in-between uses but do work well if you use them more often and drain completely between charges. With that being said I probably should have gone with the lithium ion as one of those batteries (I have used many) last almost twice as long, are lighter and holds a better charge between uses. I gave it three stars because their are better replacements out there but these are as good as the original that came with the drill.

Not much to review. It's a battery. But it charged just fine in my charger, and held the charge long enough for my power-hogging to make all my bookshelf cuts, and the drill to do all the pocket holes and screws, and then a couple more cuts with the saw on the toy bin I was making before having to recharge. Cheaper than getting it at Home Depot, since it was on sale for $25...

I mostly use the Ryobi batteries for the flashlight, mini vaccuum and such, and can only say they're pretty decent. They charge quickly, last a reasonable amount of time on each charge, and work with a great many devices. The downside is that you can't own "Just one", and should have three if you're at all forgetfull, because they show fully charged if you try to put them on charge after removing them from the vaccuum cleaner as soon as they run a little flat, then after one hour they will charge up again, so that's one point down - something should be changed in either the battery or the charger to allow for that as I've often forgotten to go back and plug it in until the second one runs out as well! The biggest downside though is that they aren't waterproof, and where I live we often get deluged. Taking the pets out at night means getting wet, it also means the battery is finished a lot of the time. This is ridiculous on a $30+ battery! Dinged two stars for that one.

I have had one a year, already will not hold a charge for more than one day. Ryobi told me to show them a receipt.....of course I do not have. They said by the serial number it was 3.5 years old. Ryobi sucks.'

Nanotechnology - nanotechnology

In this outstanding book, Professor Richard Leach presents a comprehensive overview of engineering nanometrology and how it is related to micro-/nano-technology and manufacturing.

Professor Richard Leach, who has been with National Physical Laboratory (NPL), UK, since 1990, is one of the leaders in the field of nanometrology over the world. This book is written based on Professor Richard's long experience and solid knowledge in this field. I know his research work well through reading his large number and high quality academic papers, listening to his keynote speeches in international conferences, making face-to-face discussions with him in various occasions. I am always impressed by his depthful insight and wide knowledge in nanometrology. I believe you will feel the same after you have read this book.

This book provides fundamental principles of engineering nanometrology, covering numerous measurement techniques, from static length and displacement to surface topography, mass and force. The principle, design and calibration of surface measuring instruments, including optical systems, scanning probe and particle beam microscopy, are described in depth. The whole book is easy to understand for those even with a limited mathematical knowledge.

This book will be essential and beneficial for researchers, engineers and students who are involved in nanometrology and related engineering areas. Fundamental Principles of Engineering Nanometrology (Micro and Nano Technologies)

This is a superb text on micro- and nano- scale metrology. I am currently completing my PhD in a similar research area and I use this text often as it covers a wide range of techniques, both fundamental and advanced. The diagrams are particularly clear and the mathematics, although advanced, is easy to follow and very useful.

The references are also exhaustive, providing endless further reading on this and related subjects.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is facing challenges at the micro- and nano- scale. - Nanotechnology'

Accessory Kits - canon, canon digital camera

I usually never buy a product without it having a previous review but I really needed extended battery life. I'm VERY glad I took a chance on this. I am an amateur photographer and was in need of a grip for my 60D for both extended battery life and an easy way to take vertical shots. And this was the answer! There are some pros and cons that I will list but the pros outweigh the cons especially for the price of this unit.

Pros: Good tight fit, AA battery capable, Batteries last nearly as long as original Canon, Button on/off switch, works with camera without any problems, very light.

Cons: Plastic seems cheap, Button labels silver not white (hard to tell anyway), Obviously not totally weather proof.

Time will tell how will this battery grip holds up over time. It fits my camera very well and the grip is deeper that the camera itself which makes it quite easy to hold. I'm not concerned about the unit not being weather proof an I try to keep the camera as dry and clean as possible. The extended battery life is a great benefit for nature photography because I can set up in camouflage and not worry about having to move around to reload a fresh battery. I've posted pictures of the grip on my 60D so you can see how it fits. I believe this product to be well worth the money and highly recommend it to amateurs like myself that would like a good grip without dropping much $$. Professional BG-E9 Battery Grip + 2 LP-E6 Batteries for Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR Camera

For $50 the grip is an excellent money-saving after-market alternative to Canon's $171 grip. It's comfortable and works just the same. If you are using canon batteries they will give you info, however, the batteries that come with this grip are crap. They have no chip and will not communicate with your camera so there is no way to see how much life is left. They also split open whenever I take them out of their orange plastic cover case thingy. Do yourself a favor and just buy the grip WITHOUT the batteries.

This is a nice Piece of plastic, rubber... and mechanics.

Having bought other off brand battery grips for my other Canon DSLRS I was watching out for a grip for my 60D that was a fraction of the price of the Canon brand. The first version of off brand grip that came to Amazon was the one that loads (batteries) from the back and I didn't think that would be as comfortable and solid as the one that loads from the side so I passed. This version came out and I jumped on it and couldn't be happier!

Fit is great with an excellent match to the 60D finish of the plastic coating and the rubber surfaces. The glue that they used to put the rubber on the grip stinks but I am sure that will fade. The Batteries are not bad. They charged up with the OEM charger and are solid. I couldn't tell you about a chip interface wit hte batteries but when they are running low the battery icon shows me so I am happy.

The tripod mount wheel that attaches the grip to the camera is an interesting gear driven offset device that is actually a welcome change to the other versions that I have had in the past.

As with most grips the rubber will come unglued in time, but I'd rather spend a third the price for a grip that is mostly the same as the supposed best at a fraction of the price.

I had an Opteka battery grip with my old DSLR, and it was excellent.

This one is a little poorer quality, but for the price (with two batteries), it's a very good deal.

Because of the size of the batteries, the grip is VERY wide, and can be quite annoying at times. That's not a flaw with the grip however.

The rubber material on this grip is not attached perfectly, and some sides and corners are lifting off already.

What annoyed me the most is the tightening ring, which stays a little loose and feels like something is broken.

Apart from that, the camera detects the grip and the two batteries perfectly, and the buttons work perfectly and smoothly.

The battery grip itself is awesome. I have never used a battery grip in the past, but this thing definitely fills the gap when taking portraits. It definitely does add substantial weight, but what more could you ask for to add function and power?

The reason this item lost one star is because the batteries SUCK!!! You cant use the standard Canon Charger to charge the batteries. One of my batteries shows battery power remaining and the other does not. They are both the same brand and require a third party charger.

I would recommend purchasing this battery grip without the batteries and buy the Maximalpower batteries sold on Amazon. They are awesome.

The handle looked and felt good. Attachments and materials used was up to standard. Tried charging the batteries that came with the pack but was not able to. This may be due to the fact that I'm currently in a country with 220V current supply. Will see if it works when I get an adapter. All in all, a good feel to it.

My daughter is using it and according to her it does the grip work well and it is much cheaper than Cannon original one. I assume the quality of the attached batteris is not the best but still this was a good value for the money

I bought this a few months back, and i have to say that i really liked it when i got it. fully functional keys, great build, i have seen the original canon battery grip and i thought there was really no big differences as to pay double. HOWEVER, the batteries that come with this grip ARE indeed very lousy. I got a totally defective one that doesn't even work, contacted the people i bought it from here on amazon, and they said that it was not their problem that i should contact amazon, and so far i haven't found a "contact amazon" link or anything. Anyway, i would recommend this battery grip, but i would also recommend using original canon batteries. costing over $60.00 each, that is probably the main reason why the canon battery grip is almost $150.00, making it probably a better investment. - Digital Slr - Canon - Canon Digital Camera - Accessory Kits'

Neil Patrick Harris

I've read a sampling of reviews for Season 3, most stating that 3 isn't as strong as Season 2; I heartily disagree. Season 2 felt disjointed, like filler to me (though of course I still loved it!), but Season 3 keeps the story moving forward. I like that the characters are maturing, unlike the Friends characters who irritated me acting early 20's well into their 30's. There's a natural progression here, that includes some sentiment and drama in addition to the comedy. I simply love this show~ BRAVO to the entire team that creates and excecutes it. How I Met Your Mother Season 3

The HIMYM gang [again guided by director Pam Fryman] returns with 20 more legendary episodes in How I Met Your Mother - Season Three. When Season 2 of How I Met Your Mother ended, Marshall and Lily had finally hooked back up (and tied the knot), but Ted and Robin had suddenly split up. The situations were reversed when Season 1 ended. Season Three picks up sometime later after Season Two with Robin introducing her new Argentinean lover, Gael (Enrique Iglesias) to the gang and Ted hooking up with a wild tattooed woman (Mandy Moore) after going out to party with Barney. The end result from that encounter later leads Ted (in "Ten Sessions") to a chance meeting with Stella (Sarah Chalke, fresh from NBC's recently ended Scrubs), a dermatologist and possible "mother" candidate who he falls for in the season's most engaging story arc. Props must be given to the series creators for the attention to continuity featured each season as past acquaintances (Trudy from Season One's "The Pineapple Incident" returns with a tempting opportunity for Ted in "Third Wheel") and plot devices ("The Goat" from Season One's "Milk" and Season Two's "Slap Bet" in "Slapsgiving") are revisited this season with hilarious results. Guest stars include Britney Spears (in a comeback role and the show's highest rated episode ever), Danica McKellar ("The Wonder Years"), Busy Philipps ("Dawson's Creek," "ER"), Maggie Wheeler ("Friends"), James Van Der Beek ("Dawson's Creek"), Wayne Brady ("Whose Line Is It, Anyway?"), Will Forte ("Saturday Night Live") and models Heidi Klum, Marisa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, Selita Ebanks and Adriana Lima. How I Met Your Mother - Season Three

Highly Recommended!

PLEASE NOTE: This review contains SPOILERS.

I've been a fan of How I Met Your Mother from Day One, so I don't use a phrase like "starting to slip a little" lightly. But the fact is, season three just doesn't quite measure up to the previous two.

The main problem, as I see it, is that the writers felt the need to create ongoing conflict between the core group of friends. Sure, conflict is necessary to keep things interesting. But I think the ensemble in this show is better served by external conflicts (e.g., Barney and Ted's various problems with the opposite sex, Marshall's work-related stress, etc.). Watching Ted and Robin try to one-up each other after a painful breakup last season was. . .well, not that funny. Later in the season, Ted and Barney's friendship was on the rocks.

Otherwise, there were plenty of well-written and funny shows. Here's a few highlights:

"Slapsgiving" pays off the long-running joke from last season's "Slap Bet."

"We're Not From Here" allows Barney and Ted to cut loose, posing as out-of-towners.

"How I Met Everyone Else" introduces us to a classic Barney Stinson gimmick: The Crazy/Hot Scale.

"Ten Sessions" introduces Ted's major love interest Stella (Sarah Chalke), probably his most memorable girlfriend since season one's Victoria. His manic (and successful) attempt at a two-minute date is probably the high point of the season.

"Sandcastles in the Sand" brings back Robin Sparkles. . .and culminates in an ending so shocking, you'll be grateful you don't have to wait another week to see what comes next.

I guess it's fair to say the good outweighs the not-so-good in season three. At its heart, How I Met Your Mother is the longest tease in television history (yet a few tantalizing clues as to the identity of "mother" are dropped this year). I hope they can keep it fresh awhile longer, even though the inherent illogic of its premise (just how long have Ted's kids been sitting on that couch listening to Bob Saget?) may soon start weighing heavily even on fans like myself.

Season 3 has been a very awkward time for HIMYM fans... But over all was a very great season. It started off very strong and i believe that thhe writers strike affected this show in a very bad way... But all in all it turned out to be an amazing season. I just felt that they had too many filler episodes and not enough plot. And when they finally did a plot running they ran out of time. Still the writers never cease to amaze me... They dropped alot of classics and alot of hints towards who the mother is.. but knowing HIMYM it will not go the route every one expects it to go. and i believe this is the reason i have continued to watch and i recommend not only that buy, but let a friend watch as well. Chance are you and your friend will become as addicted to this show as i am...'

Digital Camera Accessory - photography, lens

BUYER BEWARE (12/30/10 update):

I have received several comments on my review (Thanks, James!), have read several other reviews and have looked at the pictures posted by other users. Please be aware that the most recent pictures and the some of the most recent purchasers have NOT received the same product that is pictured. Please review the pictures that I have posted compared to several other users. If your results are significantly different than mine using a Canon EOS 18MM lens (or equivalent), then it is possible that you received a different product. If you received the same product, there should not be significant distortion in the picture or black rings around the edge when using the same lens at 18MM.

-------------------

I purchased this lens attachment in lieu of purchasing a brand-name wide angle lens. I wasn't expecting much, since it was only $10. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

I tested this attachment with my Canon EOS XSi and an EF-S 18-55mm lens, fully closed to 18mm. I shot images with and without the wide angle attachment, and noted a clear difference between the width of the target area. I viewed the images side by side on my large monitor (32" LCD HDTV) and did not see a significant loss of image quality. There was slight loss of sharpness, but not much.

Using the macro attachment with the same lens, I noticed a clear difference in the minimum focal distance of the lens, but I did not notice any loss of picture quality. The close up image was very sharp when viewed on the computer screen.

In both cases, autofocus did not work properly, so I had to use manual focus to achieve the best pictures. When holding the shutter button down halfway, the green focus indicator within the view finder worked properly though, and helped me get the best focus.

There are clearly higher quality lenses that serve this purpose, but this lens (wide angle and macro) is definitely something I will carry in my bag until I can purchase those more expensive lenses. It is definitely worth the $10, if you need something now.

NOTE: I also added pictures showing my test results. Follow the "See all # customer images" link below the main product picture to see my examples.

NOTE 2 (9/11/10): I've received a few questions about this lens and wanted to qualify this review a little bit. Shoppers please remember that this is a $10 lens. Even off-brand lenses for the Canon cameras costs $200+, so please do not expect to achieve the same quality results using a screw attachment. It may work in a pinch, but I would not rely on this attachment for critical photo ops when you can afford a true wide angle lens. Despite my initial thought that I would get a lot of use out of this lens, I haven't taken it out of bag, since I wrote this original review in December 2009. I haven't found the need for it. If fact, for wide angle or panoramic pictures,I use my camera's continuous shooting mode to take a series of pictures and use Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 [OLD VERSION] to splice the pictures together. It includes a feature that does this for you automatically and the results are amazing. Neewer 58mm 0.45x WIDE Angle LENS ~INCLUDING LENS BAG~ for Canon Rebel T1I XT XS XSi XTi + MORE! 58 MM

I give it 2 stars because the price is about right. If you want to do real nice wide angle shots, you may want to spend more cash and get the right gear. But if you just want to shoot around and you are beginning, then it's ok.

DO NOT USE FLASH WITH THIS, it leaves a nasty shadow on the corners and bottom of the picture.

For the price I'm paying, it's perfect, love how it wides up the lens in a lovely way. So I'm getting a wide angle adapter that comes with a macro adapter then the wide angle. the wide angle works good, but the macro lens with my 75-300 mm it is just amazing how close i get.

Well first of all, the add on comes in two parts a macro filter (looks like a +6) and a wide angle lens (or add on).

the wide angle lens is not as impressive as you may think, but again for the prize it is within expectations.

what I actually enjoyed the most was the macro filter (I actually end up buying the add ons +6 +7 +10). (i will update a couple of photos later on).

Overall for the money it is a great buy it is not cheap plastic, and it even has its own bag and covers for the add ons (both sides).

This is a good buy for new photographers, who might want to experiment new techniques, and if they like the idea of wide angle shots will end up buying an actual lens.

At this price, this is a no brainer - of course it's never gonna be the widest or the sharpest or the best quality in the world but it's easy to use, gives good results for a great price - get one and see - it's hardly gonna break the bank. - Digital Camera Accessory - Photography - Lens - Lens Accessory'

Expandable Memory

I bought this player for my 11 year old and have had great luck with it. We found that it was easy to load music, videos and games on from my computer - just a matter of copying files from the computer to the device. It is also easy to use once you get the hang of it. The screen is bright and crisp and it seems to be pretty durable. My daughter loves the internal speaker (no ear buds required) and the touch screen display. The only "wishes" that we have for it are - a place to put the little "pen" on the machine, and that the touch screen were a little more sensitive. Her best friend has an I-pod Nano and was jealous of all the features that this little player has and how well it works compared to the I-pod. Touch Screen 4GB 2.8-Inch TFT MP5 Movie Music Personal Media Player

This unit has a very large screen and it is very easy to see the video. I have a One Click YouTube downloader. Then I use the free software from CNET to convert it to the Media Players file extention. Then plug the Player into the computer and move the files over. I do not see how it can be any easier. There are lots of music videos on the internet ready to download. Even the expensive media players you have to covert to their format. In fact they can be more difficult to use because of copy protection that you do not run into on these units. If you want to download the music videos for free, then this is the one to get. It is like having a little TV in your pocket. Whatever is on TV can be recorded and played on your media player. Esp with the clear crisp digital image they have now. Just get a video capture card and your ready to go. Get some LG speakers and you can share your music with your friends and even look on the screen to see who is making the music. Plug them in at night and your ready to go the next day. Be sure to back up your files, because you never know when you will have to reformat & reload your computer or player. The small screen players are nice also. But this is a great deal with the large screen and the easy to use touch buttons.

First of all NEVER DOWNLOAD LARGE FILES DIRECTLY ON TO THE MP4, if you do the MP4 will crash(i.e. turn off forever). This happened to me and others. Once it crashes there is nothing you can do to get it working again, you can avoid the problem by transfering only small files at a time. I contacted Pro biz customer support before and after my MP4 crashed they contacted me within an hour after I emailed them and were very helpful. I had some problems getting video on to the MP4 so he sent me to, [...],where there was a simple and easy proceeder to get video on to the device. They also told me that currently the only game available on the MP4 is the one already on it, but they are working on making more. They also told me that the MP4 only takes mini SD cards, it will not take micro or SDHC cards, there is a difference.

So in conclusion I rated the product a 4 even though it crashed on me because of the great customer support and because you can avoid the crashing by being sure to never downloading large files( group of more than ten songs, or more than one video at a time)directly on to the mp4 player.

I was a little skeptical about purchasing this player since it is made by a no-name company. Usually buying cheap things with no brand name has been disappointing for me but I decided to take the plunge and buy it based on the reviews I have read. I am very happy I took the gamble. This is really a nice player considering the price!

When I first got it I was impressed by the packaging. It looked nice and came with all the accessories. When I first held the player it felt alright--construction I think is above average but not as solid and durable as the Iphone. Why compare the body to the Iphone you ask? Well the answer is because it is made to look almost identical to the Iphone in terms of shape, feel, and overall look but obviously that is where the similarities end.

Now in terms of using it, I was very impressed by the wide varity of formats it plays. In the old days when I had other video players, they usually played a very limited formats or only one proprietary video format which required the dreaded and tedious process of conversion. This player is great because it easily plays a large amount of diverse formats with no problem at all. The mp3 player is also very easy to use--no conversion required.

Loading videos and music from my computer to the player is SUPER EASY! I love this. All you have to do is open the drive which corresponds to the player and copy and paste the video and mp3 files to the player. THAT'S IT! Nothing complicated. In fact, if you plug your player to your computer, your computer should open the player drive for you. How easy is that! Once loaded all you have to do is touch the video icon-to play a particular video file-and that is it!

Now for the most important and crucial part of the player: video playback quality and sound quality. I am happy to say the video quality is good but NOT great. I bet the resolution during video playback of an Apple multimedia player and other much more expensive players are slightly better, but they will cost you a lot more money than this player. Think $150 or more at least for a video player with higher quality playback and built-in 4GB. The sound is also good but not great.

The player also has a nice feature which I like which is a speaker. Yea the speaker is small and has somewhat of tinny sound but that said it is passable. The speaker is more of a convenience feature to be used in the event that you don't have your earphones. The sound with the included earphones are good but it will sound a lot better if you buy a good quality earphones like a Sony or Panasonic.

In terms of battery life, this remains a question mark since I just got this device and I really did not have a chance to really test it out in terms of battery life. I will update this review when I chance to really test it out.

Another aspect which I like to mention is about the durability of this media player. I don't know how many times you can drop it or abuse it before it stops working right. I know that the Iphone and other good products made by Apple are drop tested many times and are designed to take a lot of abuse and still work. I am a little concerned about this issue because cheap "knock-offs" are really disposable and are not really meant to last since they are cheaply constructed. So far I am happy with this player and I hope that it can take a lot of abuse especially since I have a baby newphew that likes to throw things!

Finally, what I like about this player is that it is EXPANDABLE. This may not sound like a big deal but it really is. The player comes with built-in memory of 4GB but you can add a mini SD card and expand the memory. In my research of media players I noticed most of them-including the very expensive ones-had fixed memory/built-in memory storage and that is it. That means that with other players if you have a lot of things you want to add in the future and if you reached the memory storage limit of the player, you either have to delete what you have stored or buy another player with more built-in memory. With this player you just simply add a memory card with your video/music files on it. You don't have to delete anything you have stored even if you have reached the storage 4GB limit. THIS IS A GREAT AND CONVENIENT FEATURE. Since I just got the player I have not had to use a memory card but it is nice to know that I could if I want to expand the memory storage capacity.

UPDATE:

After 2 weeks, I had to return this multimedia player. The battery life is very bad and it failed to stay on when I "turned it on"!!!! I sent emails to the company and they were nice and responsive. Eventually after trying everything they told me to return it back to Amazon for a refund. I contacted Amazon and I was able to return it with no hassle. I like that.

Do yourself a favor, DON'T BUY VERY CHEAP MULTIMEDIA PLAYERS!! Yea the price is great but you are playing Russian Roulette. You will not know what you are buying until you use it only to find out it craps out after several weeks. Stick to well known brand like Fuze by Sandisk which I purchased. Yea it will cost you a little more BUT IT IS WORTH IT! I use it all the time and I never had any problems. Remember, you get what you pay for especially in this case. DO NOT GET THIS PLAYER!'

Mothers Day Gifts - necklace, silver

The pendant came before the time promised, and though the picture looked nice, for the price I was pretty sure that I'd be disappointed when I saw it...but I was mistaken! It is very pretty, my wife loved it, and I wouldn't hesitate to do business with this company in the future..

Thrilled to pieces with this purchase. Sterling Silver Mother and Child Heart-Shaped, Gift for Mom Love Mom Pendant Necklace 18'', Mother's day gift

my husband is an only child, so when i saw this pendant, i thought it was perfect! its super cute, but i didn't expect the underside to be so hollow. its a lot lighter and a tiny bit smaller than i expected, but it was still a great surprise for my mother-in-law for mother's day. the pouch it came in was very big, and the way it was packaged made it look cheap (it was in a plastic folding piece, sort of like the plastic sheets earrings come in), so i took it out the plastic and put it in a nice box. all in all, pretty satisfied with my purchase. - Silver - Heart - Mothers Gifts - Necklace'

Usb Hub - 4 port usb hub, portable

Bought this to carry along with my Macbook Air, it worked fine initially but now two of the 4 ports don't work! In effect it only adds one additional port the one that I already have on my Air (this still doubles my USB port capacity but is hardly what I was looking for)

At the current price it's not even worth the hassle of following up with the manufacturer and sending back for service. I'd recommend this Belkin Hub instead. IOGEAR 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub GUH285 (Black)

I'd give negative stars if I could.

Died within one month of purchase. Similar to other posts, power light worked, but could not recognize drives. Could be it's not compatible with Vista, but to date the company has admitted no such conflict. I contacted IoGear about fixing the product. They told me to ship it to them, I did. Shame on me, I assumed they'd cover the shipping for a product that was well within the "3 year limited warranty." Though they never mentioned anything about "buyer's burden" in any of three emails or two phone calls prior to shipping, once I received the "fixed" item back, I was told IoGear does not cover the cost of shipping ($15), even if the defect is covered by their warranty agreement. This was after ignoring 2 more emails, stonewalling me through 2 more phone calls and 30 minutes of "on hold" time. Absurdly, the only people who could refund my money are the "Design Team," who are apparently always out of the office, not surprising, given the quality of product.

On another note, I took the "fixed" item out of the box 5 days ago. This morning it stopped working.

This ioGear 4-port hub is probably doing more to pollute the earth than all your Hummer cars out there today.

Seriously, the device failed after 7 weeks of ordering, brand new from Amazon. Granted, it was only $7, still...not worth it for less than 2 months of use. Probably have to pay some disposal tax 'cause this thing is made outta' shatty GARBAGE!!

Many ants and fruit flies outlast the IoGear 4-port hub. FAIL!!1!4

Like the others have written, this device stopped working for me after several months. Since I don't have the sales receipt anymore, it's not worth the effort of trying to get Iogear to fix it.

Either Iogear's design or their quality control is worthless. Whichever the case, I'll never buy another Iogear product again.

This is a terrible item. It gets hot and after an hour or two it will suddenly stop working on some of it's ports. I see my USB disks disconnect. then they reconnect after a minute or so. They may stay connected for abother hour then disconnect again. Sometimes when you touch the device they disconnect. It's not the cable or the disks cause this does not happen when they are connected directly.

I bought this because the form factor was attractive. But I wish now I had read the reviews first as it looks like most people are having the same kinds of problems with this.

DONT BUY IT!!

Do not buy, it will not work with a wireless usb adapter on your notebook, I got this to use with a mouse and to have use of my wireless internet at the same time, since I do not like the mouse on my notebook! after the cable man set up my wireless internet on my notebook and pluged in the usb hub! and the mouse to it my internet, "it took a life time to look up my login information" so he said this type of "HUB 2.2 will not work with a wireless-G adapter, after he took it off my internet came up like a bolt of lighting! you will waste your money if you buy this one.

My laptop only has a couple ports on it and I use multiple hard drives so I was hoping this would be a sort of hard drive docking station. It works great as that, but the wire from the device to the computer is so short its often in the way.

I bought this through another vendor, but it's the same product. It seems like a solid piece of construction, though the design is a little wonky. The cable from the device to the computer is so short that it's barely suitable for any computer that doesn't have a front USB port. Still, it worked great for the time that it worked at all.

Now the light still comes on, but nothing else plugged into it receives power or shows up on the computer.

Buyer beware.

I bought this hub a few months, and its never been used. Simply being- it does not support USB 2.0. If your looking to use current devices avoid this at all costs. If your just looking for any ol' hub for USB 1.1 devices, you could probably do just as well or better elsewhere. while its nice that the USB cord tucks into the plastic housing, it feels cheap and the devices longevity is questionable. - Usb - 4 Port Usb Hub - 2009 Amazon Frustration-fre - Portable'

Alegria By Pg Lite - Fun And Comfortable - womens clogs, clogs

I own both the Alegria Feliz and Palmoma styles (the two types of mary janes).

If you cannot afford $100 shoes that last 3-4 months only with heavy use, pass on them. If comfort and style reign supreme, go for it. I have had literally hundreds of complements on my shoes.

The good: These shoes are more comfortable than Dansko's and come in a variety of very fun and cute styles.

The bad: The base of my Paloma-style already has a crack after four months of heavy use. I have not had problems with the velcro and love the shoes so much that I would have them repaired at a shoe shop when that wears out. My Paloma's, though cracked, are still functional (for now).

The ugly: For the cost, these shoes ought to last like Dansko's (forever), but they are clearly not going to. Alegria By Pg Lite Fel-509 Suede Floral 41

I bought these shoes because of the style, they are unique and everyone likes them, including myself. After about 25 days the velcro on the strap was worn out and now I have a pair of $100.00 shoes and can't wear them. I wouldn't buy them unless they have a button for a strap!

I had ordered some sandals of the same brand over the summer so I knew the shoes would probably be just as comfortable. I was not disappointed, these shoes are extremely comfy and so cute. I ordered black but received black snake. I wouldn't have ordered snake embossed but I am not sending them back; the snake just makes them a little shinier.

This is a great pair of shoes. The first day that I wore them I was able to wear them for my full 12 hr shift. Very light weight. Very pretty and stylish. Slip resistant. I am very glad that I chose to purchase these shoes. - Alegria By Pg Lite - Fun And Com - Comfort Shoes - Clogs - Womens Clogs'

Candle Lighter - torch, mini torch

These are tough and finger-safe! I had one last 2 years with heavy heavy usage! It's appreciated that fingers are nowhere near flames on this, unlike many other inferior products I've tried which get too hot to hold after a while or they just break.

The built-in stand is a must-have to keep furniture and house-hold safe while it's locked-on in use.

The easy bottom click is quiet and nearly effortless.

HINT: Just bounce the entire torch's bottom off the table-top and instantly it's lit up. That way you don't have to move your hand off the flame adjustment controls and on/off switch.

The flame control is stable and if gas refills are good quality gas (no $.99 cheapies!) and the device is properly bled beforehand (let it run all the way out first!!!) you will not have "bouncing flame" problems!

I'm buying my second one now and can't wait to receive it! Blazer PT-4000 Pencil Butane Torch

The PT4000 is an excellent tool that can be used for many uses beyond its soldering iron intentions. Although the flame is not optimal when upside down, this little gadget is worth it's weight in gold. There needs to be a standard lighter option on this in case one doesn't need the intensity of the torch flame. Other than that... haven't found much better around.

Please see the BUT below!

Original review: {This is a sweet little pencil torch. It gets hotter and lasts longer than any other teeny torch (I've tried) that will fit in my pocket. :) I mean, it is not the torch of choice if you mean business but it is great for a PENCIL torch! I am going to make a new course up just for this torch. Silversmithing on the run!

I like it.}

BUT - after using it for a little while it clogged and would not accept butane. It seems it is supposed to use ONLY Blazer brand butane because the other brands (like Ronson and Zippo) are dirty and cause this clogging. It is apparently a very common problem and not fixable. - - - There is no mention of this in the description for the torch. Who knew???

This is an excellant lighter or focused mini-blowtorch for light soldering or welding, lighting candles, fireplace fires, charcoal fires etc, paricularly if windy. The focused mini-blowtorch ignights by pressing an ignighting button and stays on until turned off so it should be kept out of reach of children who might turn it on and drop it and start a fire or they could burn themselves. I love it.

First of all, I can't believe they still make this. Second of all, I'm glad they still make this. I bought mine in college, 16 years ago. It's been used in camping trips to start fires it's been dropped off the dock into a lake and it still keeps working. Lately it's had a slow butane leak, but I can't think of much else that has taken that much abuse for that long and kept working. I'm here to buy another.

Lights easy and burns great. The only complaint is that the flame blows out VERY easy, an A/C unit or very light breeze etc.will blow the flame out. If the shroud were even 1/16-1/8" deeper it would be perfect. I use outdoors as a pyrotechnic shooter and this is a very important feature. I have added a metal sleeve to increase the shroud depth and it now works just fine.

This torch was great for several months but stopped accepting butane (it would just spew out the sides, and then the flame was non existant due to lack of fuel). I had a friend who bought this torch also, and hers did it almost right away. Amazon was awesome- they sent me a replacement torch six months later, but that torch didn't accept butane at all. Then they sent ANOTHER replacement- same thing. So long story short, this torch is a great size and easy to use, but it is useless since something is wrong with the butane intake. - Blazer - Mini Torch - Torch - Lighter'

Noise-canceling Headphones - noise canceling earbuds, noise cancelling

I was an early adopter of active noise canceling technology and over the years have had many a pair of ANC headphones. They did serve their primary purpose of hearing protection and I still have them in the garage for the occasional power tool moments.

For long commutes, however, these headphones are simply too bulky and heavy to be comfortable. The pressure on the ears becomes particularly unbearable with glass frames. Two years ago, I got a pair of Shure E2c Sound Isolating In-Ear Earphones Color CLEAR - E2C / E2 just for my daily rides on the rail. The Shure is light, convenient and good-sounding. It lacks the active NC circuit but the in-ear design dampens the ambient noise sufficiently on the train.

Once I started flying regularly for business, however, I went looking for a stronger solution. My first try was Aiwa HP-CN6 Noise-Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones, which is much lighter than older designs and thus gives me some hope of less crimping on the ears. Unfortunately, the Aiwa's collapsible frame is hard on the skull and won't stay in place. The noise dampening is mediocre and the pressure on the ears remains too much for me. I began looking for a pair of in-the-ear set with good active noise canceling capability.

Surprisingly, there is very little choice available in the market. Although earbuds have a natural advantage in noise isolation, its small size poses difficulties for manufacturers, who need to cram microphones next to the speaker units. Panasonic's expertise in miniaturization comes in handy here, allowing the company to deliver a product of uniquely superior design.

I wore the Panasonic RP-HC55 on a recent trip non-stop for eight hours straight and loved it. There is little if any discomfort at all and the noise-canceling works well. It is so light and the cord is short enough that I simply unplug the connector and put it in my shirt pocket without removing the buds during the occasional visits to the restroom. I usually had a hard time falling asleep on the plane, but this time I was able to doze off for a couple of hours. The Panasonic is no doubt the best earphones I have ever owned.

Despite my high regards for this product, some nitpicking remains possible. I am used to wrapping the cords of the Shure backward around my ears and lock them in place by tightening the Y-junction against my chin. This is very difficult to do with the Panasonic because its cords are made of elastic rubber and its Y-junction is not adjustable. The range of volume control is fairly limited, particularly on the low side, so one has to look elsewhere if he wants to drop the volume temporarily without killing it altogether. But overall, this is a great product, especially for frequent fliers.

================================== Added 12/08/2009 ==================================

Consumer Reports appears to agree with my assessment. The 2009 Electronics issue rates this Panasonic the Best Buy among NC headphones. Panasonic RP-HC55-S Noise-Cancelling Earbud Headphones (Silver)

I bought these panasonic noise cancelling buds after the sony N/C buds I bought only worked on one ear. I use a lot of headphones, and I think the sound is pretty good, but not great, and the noise cancelling feature is good, but not great. They are comfortable, and use a rubber type bud that really helps to seal out the sound in addition to the noise cancelling.

I really prefer using buds, but the Sennheiser 250 noise cancelling are superior for not a lot more money, but if you are trying to use buds they are pretty good, especially for the money.

One annoying thing, the wire to the battery unit is just a little short for walking around with. I am pretty tall but this just hangs from my ears if I don't have a shirt with front pocket or placket.

These are the best bang for the buck! I bought them after reading Consumer Report's review rating them higher than the Bose and Sennheisers. I own a pair of Sennheisers and they're ok, but too big. This is my 4th pair of noise cancelling and by far the best. Previously, I've owned Koss, Sennheisers, Logitech and more recently Audio Technica, ranging in price from 35-$100 and by far these are superior in every aspect. These are also the first in ear I've owned.

The only downside is the bass is a bit disappointing. I'm curious to see how these match up to the dual driver phones Apple recently released.

Give them a 4.5/5 for sound quality, 4.75/5 for sound isolation, 5/5 for value!

These are pretty good earbuds. The downside is that the compartment that holds the battery is at an odd place on the cord, so it pulls the earbuds out of your ears (it's relatively heavy). It has a clip (like a pen) so you can put it on your t-shirt if you're working out, but it pulls pretty hard on your clothes. So it's just not quite as user-friendly as I'd like. In fact, I've gone back to using my old, regular headphones with worse sound because of the weight/awkwardness factor. - Earbuds - Noise Canceling Earbuds - Noise Cancelling - Noise Cancelling Headphones'

Applied Psychology - food addiction, zen

I came upon this book accidentally in the new cook book section at the Carnegie library. I took a glance and the contents seemed interesting. So on my driving home, I listened to the guided mindfulness exercises CD that came with the book. This was not what I expected--my way home felt like a transformed journey to self discovery: the exercisers were simple, practical; the voice soothing; the effect, however, was profound. I was intrigued by how was it possible that our body would know the foods that we need at a particular point in time? I eagerly plunged into the book and read all about the seven kinds of hungers. I was very pleased for the insight I gained from the reading. This book inspires. The writing is lucid and thoughtful. Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food--includes CD

As a consequence of the American search for the perfect healthy diet, we have developed a love-hate relationship with food. Confusion reigns about what foods we are to eat and which we are to avoid. Our reliance on scientific evidence has simply added to the confusion. We can't even agree if we are naturally carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore.

"Mindful Eating," written by physician and Zen teacher Jan Chozen Bays, provides a way back to sane eating. Bays does not prescribe what we are to eat but provides gentle guidance about how to eat. This book provides numerous exercises to help us be present to ourselves and our food.

Bays teaches us to become aware of our seven forms of hunger--eye, nose, mouth, stomach, cellular, mind, and heart hungers. Each hunger satisfies legitimate needs. Bays instructs us with understanding and humor on how to recognize and satisfy each hunger. Her approach is a return to an intimate and joyful relationship with food. Stop dieting. Read this book and discover how to physically, mentally, and spiritually relate with food and return to sane eating.

This book does an excellent job of exploring all aspects of mindfulness in eating. The book's weakness, and the reason I gave it four stars instead of five, is that mindfulness is not the whole answer to emotional or compulsive eating. It's necessary, but not sufficient. In the recovery method I teach, Normal Eating, mindfulness corresponds to Stage 2, "Reconnecting". But then there are two more stages after that. Dr. Bays even gives examples of people who continue to eat emotionally or compulsively despite awareness of the triggers. That's because awareness isn't enough - there's more work to be done.

I don't think Dr. Bays understands the addictive aspect of compulsive eating, as evidenced by the one wrong note the book struck on page 72 about "going unconscious". She says, "The point of mindful eating is not to forbid ourselves to ever use food in this way." I disagree. That's like saying the point of recovery from alcoholism isn't to forbid the alcoholic from ever taking another drink. Uh, actually, yes it is. Compulsive eaters can't eat addictively in moderation any more than alcoholics can drink in moderation.

"Going unconscious", as Dr. Bays calls it, is the essence of what it means to use food addictively, as she well knows because she discusses binge eating in this section. Not using food addictively has to be a "bottom line" if a compulsive eater is to recover - something you never do. I'm not saying people should never eat just for enjoyment. But eating for enjoyment is not the same as "going unconscious" or numbing out with food. I wrote about this at length in a recent newsletter, "Is Eating to Numb Out Ever Okay?":

[...]

Except for this one quibble, I liked "Mindful Eating" very much. Dr. Bays is a Zen teacher, but the book isn't weighed down with details of Buddhism. Her purpose is not to teach Buddhism, it's to teach mindful eating. And she does a superb job of it.

Most explanations of mindful eating encourage people to focus on the food's appearance, smell, and taste. Bays goes much further, encouraging mindfulness in all aspects of the eating experience, emotional and physical. She lists seven "hungers" - seven areas to survey in yourself as you are eating:

1. Eye (what the food looks like)

2. Nose (what it smells like)

3. Mouth (sensations in the mouth - feel, taste)

4. Stomach (sensations in the stomach - growling, fullness, emptiness)

5. Cellular (the body wisdom that gives you a yen for what you need nutritionally)

6. Mind (your thoughts on what you "should" be eating)

7. Heart (how soothing or comforting the food is to you)

This is an excellent summary of the experience of eating - clear, concise, and thorough. If you practice mindfulness in all these areas when you eat, you will fully reconnect with yourself, and this will put you on the path to recovery.

The author is a physician, so the book also is filled with interesting information about the experience of eating on a physiological level. These details don't come off as ponderous or dense because they're presented through interesting anecdotes from Dr. Bays' practice or personal experience.

"Mindful Eating" is readable, insightful, and full of interesting information. I highly recommend it, with the caveat that lack of mindfulness in eating is not the only reason for emotional or compulsive eating. To stop compulsive eating requires some further steps.

Sheryl Canter

Author of "Normal Eating for Normal Weight"

An excellent book. I came upon this book by chance while browsing through a Yoga magazine and this book was suggested as a newly published book. It looked interesting and while I was at the bookstore, I bought it. I'm so glad I did. It is written in simple humanistic terms explaining the different kinds of hunger we have that we're unaware of and how we view food. Humans truly should only eat when hungry and somehow such a simple truth is overlooked by so many. She explains how we ate as children. The author is a spiritual teacher who explains zen way of eating in a very calm peaceful way. This is an eye opener for all of us trapped in the thought of why most all diets do not work. Video Games - fps

I've played quite a few City Interactive games and have found them to be average or slightly above, keeping in mind that they are low budget games using the tried-and-true Jupiter EX engine. I found Code of Honor 3 to be a bit dull.

As with most City Interactive FPS games, you're not going to find any ground breaking innovation, but you will be getting a game that is within the current generation of technologies, using the same basic engine as FEAR and FEAR 2. These games are not new releases of 1990s technologies and it's obvious that a significant amount of time went into creating and detailing the setting. Where the game fails to impress is the fact that there is basically nothing new to expect as you progress through the game. As with other City Interactive games, there are no level bosses or difficult challenges waiting for you ahead. There is no ramping up of the difficulty as you become acclimated to the controls and weapons.

If you have played and enjoyed other City Interactive shooters, then you'll find this to be more of the same (which is not necessarily a slam). I didn't like it as much as other games of theirs, but I would be willing to give it three stars if it were selling for something closer to $10-12.

The game runs well on my Vista x64 machine with no patches. I turned up all the graphics settings, with no problems on my machine (3GHz core 2 duo, 4 GB ram, dual SLI-linked 8800GTS 512 GPUs). I do have to admit that City Interactive games are largely trouble free and rarely seem to need any patches. I'm a fan of City Interactive as a supplier of cheap run-and-gun games, but this is not their best effort.

Sorry for not offering more detail, but I have already been playing other games in the two weeks since I finished this game and they tend to run together in my mind. If I were to go into detail, I'm afraid I might get them confused. Code of Honor 3: Desperate Measures

I have played the first 2 C of H and this one combines the action and adventure and puts them in a wide variety of environments. Love the new weapons but in some scenes the screens are very dark and when I put nightvision on there is a glare. Overall I like the action for the price.

This is a great FPS. A bit difficult in spots, but, once you logically find an object you are seeking, it is definitely a fun game.

WARNING: Playing this game can cause computer time warps!

I sat down to play for about 15 minutes, and somehow lost over 4 hours.

Seriously, it is a fantastic compliment to Code of Honor 1 and 2. Different main character, but very enjoyable, all the same.

I recommend this game highly to anyone who likes to shoot the sh** out of just about everyone (and a few objects) that you find in front of you, or lurking behind things.

I played the first Code of Honor and was impressed by its length of play time and artistic vision in depicting the outdoors landscape of an African continent. This game is well below par compared to that one, its short and a lot of the game is played in darkness, which means you have to use night vision - which gives a green tint to the world and looks bad, its a shame because otherwise the graphics are nice, but with the green tint coating your vision it takes away from the graphics. The game should have had more day time levels instead of most of them being set in the dark night time.

The voice acting of the villains is also horrible, and took away from the story of the game. They left open the possibility of another sequel at the end, but hopefully it will be a higher level of quality than this one. - Fps'
