Data Cable - usb, cable

Cord is pretty much a standard cord. It works with the Palm wall adapter and when charging your Pre from a USB port. But the cord/plastic around the micro-USB plug-in is too large to fit into the Touchstone. So basically this cable works great, just doesn't work with the Touchstone. Smartphone USB Data Cable / Charging Cable for Palm Pre (Sprint)

There is a lot of confusion out there about the pre data vs charging cables, and scarry warnings from palm about using 3rd party cables. However, I tested this cable and it does charge and provide data connection for my Pre. Nothing bad happened ;)

They are a little thinner than the stock Palm cable, but for the price, they are great. you could order 5 of these for the price of one official "palm" cable...

Haven't used it for long, and while you may 'get what you pay for', this cable seems to do everything you'd expect it should, reliably. The cables I received didn't have a clip-together (phone-side) end as shown in the image, it's just a molded soft rubber/plastic. In fact, this made it even easier to use an art knife to whittle away a few slivers of material from the top, and now it fits perfectly in the back of the touchstone. I've already got power-to-USB and car cigarette-to-usb dongles from other devices, so these will turn those into chargers at home and in the car.

As another reviewer mentions, the phone-side plug is too thick for usage in the Touchstone, but otherwise the cable works just as advertised. It'd have been a 5-star minus the touchstone issue. It's basically a standard Micro-USB plug, but one would expect that the "Palm Pre" designation means that they've tested it with the Pre and relevant devices. Shrug. You get what you pay for sometimes. I'm nonetheless [almost] perfectly happy with my [inexpensive] purchase.

This cable works well for charging and even the USB drive feature on the Palm Pre. However, this cable cannot be used on the touchstone without cutting it and does not work at all for WebOS Quick Install or WebOS Doctor. Overall cable quality is pretty good otherwise.

Works great for transferring data via USB link. I tried to charge, but it took over 12 hours to go from 30% battery to 100% => no good. Also, the other reviewer were right that it does not fit the Touchstone. One day I will try shaving it down to fit.

As a new Pre+ owner, one thing became clear to me quickly: this smartphone is a battery hog! If you use apps like e-mail, web browsing, music playback, Pandora or the Mobile WiFi hotspot feature, your phone's battery will most likely not make it through the day. For this reason, I picked up a couple of these USB/micro cables so I could keep one at work, one in the car and one at home. For car use, I use it with a generic lighter plug/USB adapter. At home I plug it into the AC to USB adapter that came with the phone. In the office I plug it into my computer. In all cases, the charger works as expected. When attached to the computer, I have the option of using the cable to transfer data to/from the phone or simply charging it, just like the stock Palm cable does.

My only complaint would be that it is about 18 inches shorter than the stock cable from Palm. But for the price it sells for here and free shipping, it's a no-brainer: buy a few of these and keep them around so that your Pre will never run out of juice.

By the way, as others have stated, the micro end of the adapter is too big to fit in the Touchstone charger, so if you want to use the cord with the Touchstone then look elsewhere.

I bought two of these and using either I cannot connect my Pre as a USB drive. The PC continually detects then disconnects the Pre. Works fine with cable that came with the Pre, so its definitely the cable. - Charger - Pre - Cable - Usb'
