Decorations - decalgirl, decorations

I felt kinda foolish when i rushed out and bought my Kindle in the first place when i randomly had extra cash on hand thanks to some good luck. You could say that i had a little buyers remorse, especially when i found that i would be installing the skin to it myself. I was pretty skeptical of the decals that are made for the page turn buttons on the side, but after inserting into hoodie pockets and stuffed backpacks repeatedly and not having any lifting of the side decals I'm glad of my purchase.

Install of the skin was daunting at first, i admit, but after i looked and talked myself into it I decided i would do it myself instead of taking it to the mall and having those invisible shield people install it for me. Instructions say that the Kindle needed to be clean and free of grime for the decal to fit and keep it's adherence to the surface, luckily i bought both the Kindle and the decal at the same time which equaled a fresh Kindle without a need to worry about whether or not i cleaned it well enough. The fit and sizing of the decal is near perfect, to the point that at first glance it doesn't look like it's an aftermarket installation.

i've taken my newly outfitted Kindle to work many times and it never fails to produce a conversation starter. The art is fantastic for where i work since my shift butts up against the graveyard shift and the night owls at work love the dark and resonating power of the art, almost as if it signified a light at the end of their midnight vigil if they read.

My favorite part is the matte finish of the decal. We love the look of all the shiny electronics that are coming out today but honestly who can keep from putting fingerprints all over them when they are finally in use. The finish of this skin destroys the possibility of any unsightly smudges from fingerprints. I'm in love with my Kindle and it's look. i really have no issues with this product and i would like to thank Amazon, Decal Girl, and Vlad Studio for the great product. I wasn't expecting something that adhered directly to my Kindle 3--these aren't really "skins," more like decals. The skin I bought for my Kindle 2 was a silicon skin that the Kindle slipped into (like a wetsuit) so I could take it off if necessary. This skin for the Kindle 3 comes in 2 pieces and you have to punch out the areas for the keys on the keyboard, etc. I'm not sure how well it will stick onto the Kindle considering I shove mine into my bag a lot as I exit the commuter train/bus/etc. and it seems to me that a decal would easily peel off during these rushed packings. It also does NOT have that "skin" feel to it--the whole reason I decided to buy a skin for this new Kindle 3 is so it wouldn't slip out of my hands, off my document reader or get knocked off a table or desk. The skin for the Kindle 2 felt like skin (sort of) and gave the Kindle that needed textured grip; this new skin for the Kindle 3 doesn't and I don't think the Kindles need additional decoration. Picture is nice though but that wasn't why we bought a skin. I'm returning this for a refund and hope someone will eventually come out with a silicon skin ala the one for the Kindle 2.

The brand name is DecalGirl so this is obviously a sticker decal for your kindle. This particular skin is very pretty, but in person the skin has more of a yellow/greenish tint than is shown in the picture. The image is still very crisp and it looks great. I like this skin because when my kindle is in the amazon cover, only the front is visible and the front of this skin is still just as pretty as the back (whereas other skins look funny with large chunks of the front image missing). It is also not too distracting when you are reading.

My main critique is that the holes for the letters are perforated but not punched out; you have to individually punch out all of the holes so it gets a little tedious (I used a bobby pin). It's also a little difficult to peel off of the paper without stretching it but it didn't cause any problems. Otherwise, once on the kindle, it was easy to lift up and realign and only took a few minutes to apply. My sister helped me put it on and I think having an extra pair of hands made it much easier, even if they just offer moral support :-D Looks wonderful once it's on and now I don't have to worry about leaving sweaty fingerprints all over my kindle.

One more thing - it does have a vinyl smell at first but it goes away after a day or two.

Wow! That was easy! I have always had difficulty applying screen protectors onto all my electronics. Well, I expected this SKIN for my New Kindle to be just as difficult. I just knew I would have to live with at least 1 bubble or pucker, but WOW, No Bubbles or Puckers & I applied it myself. Great Product.

And, It looks exactly as wonderful as it did in the advertisement. YEAH! - Decals - Decalgirl - Decorations - Kindle 3'
