Buffalo Technology - buffalo, buffalo technology

I bought this item based on the feedbacks. I'm an IT guy. The setup and configuration was extremely easy, I didn't use the CD at all. I have my VOIP phone, Wii, 5 computers, wireless Epson ARTISON 800, netflix boxes all running at the same-time and using Wireless "G". I'm rejoicing over the optimal performance. I'm a satisfied customer and extremely happy that I decided to make the purchase.

This product has eliminated the frequent disconnects I was having and my wife even commented on that the videos on youtube are no longer "stop and go". I can talk on the phone, watch netflix, kids can play wii, and the wife can watch youtube movies at the same time. I highly recommend this product. Buffalo Technology AirStation High Power N300 Wireless Router & AP WHR-HP-G300N (Black)

Pros:

Great signal strength. (See full review below)

Small in size. (About 5.6 x 5 x 0.9 inches not counting antenna or stand)

Color and smoothness matches my Playstation 3?

Cons:

Manual setup can be confusing if you don't know what you are doing. (Lucky I'm good with technology)

The shape of the AC plug may or may not be a problem.

Very light-weight. May tip over if wires have high tension.

Does not have website logging tool like the WPN824.

I purchased this router/AP to replace my Netgear WPN824v2. The Netgear worked great with laptops and computers but constantly dropped connections with my Playstation 3. I bought this based on the reviews of its predecessor, the WHR-HP-G54 which has high ratings. I was not disappointed. I live in a 2 story apartment and the router is in the 2nd floor while my Playstation 3 is on the first. I used to get 80%-90% signal strength on my Playstation 3 with the WPN824 but it kept losing connection constantly or was as slow as dial-up. With the new Buffalo High Powered router it's always at a constant 100% signal and never loses connection. I haven't tested the distance yet but it goes through 1 floor of concrete and lead paint with 100% signal strength.

I cannot comment about the included computer software as I prefer to use manual setup. Compared to the WPN824 this router's interface takes some time getting used to, but after 5 minutes I was up and running.

One feature that the WPN824 has that this doesn't (or I can't find it) is the ability to log websites that clients visit. I have a few wireless connections that I need to keep a check on.

Contrary to a previous review, this product does have WDS in its Wireless Config menu. It allows you to connect Master, Slave, and lower Slave.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

I installed two of these, using the second as a repeater. When I called tech support to get help, it quickly became clear that they were not familiar with the capabilities of the product. They told me it did not have repeater capability. I had to reference the manual to show them it did. It took one call to get the first one set up (it required changes to my router settings). It took two more to get the repeater function working.

I am now using the second unit to stream Netflix to my DVD player on a different floor of the house and at the far end. Connections have been stable and strong unlike the Linksys setup I had used previously. Furthermore, I'm only using g wireless adapters on my laptops.

I bought this to act as an access point for my Verizon FiOS ActionTec router. After experimenting with it for awhile I realized that I would be better off if I set it up as a repeater for the FiOS router. The first thing I had to do in order to use it as a repeater was to convert it to the "User-Friendly Firmware" from the factory installed "Professional Firmware". The "User Manual for User Friendly Firmware" provides instructions as to how to do this. Note that the user manual tends to be confusing but I was able to work my way through the conversion. To be honest I don't see any advantages for the average user for using the "Professional Firmware". To set it up as a repeater I followed the instructions on pages 18-21 of the "User-Friendly Firmware Manual". I set the WHR-HP-300N in repeater mode using the same SSID and security code as the FiOS router. I fixed the FiOS router at channel 11 and set the Buffalo at "Automatic" for channel selection. By doing this I can move throughout my house without having to select Access Points. The FiOS router is in the basement utility room and the Buffalo is at the opposite corner of the house in the master bedroom. I now have full wireless coverage throughout every room in the house. To my delight and surprise I discovered that in the repeater mode the unit also acts as a wireless bridge. I was able to plug the master bedroom TiVo and Sony Blu-ray player Ethernet cables into the LAN ports of the Buffalo and thereby eliminate a powerline Ethernet adapter that was often flaky. - Dd-wrt - Wi-fi - Buffalo Technology - Buffalo'
